15th Day of Soncek
BASKETBALL METROPOLIS

This is what a journalist said in an article about the Day of Soncek:
"The Day of Soncek will take place in Ajdovscina, Tolmin, Solkan, Sempeter, Vrtojba, Trieste, Dobrovo, Dornberk, Rence, Miren, Kanal, Postojna, and in Domzale. Basketball played by the youngest will again bring together the municipalities and two cities will form a Basketball Metropolis. Nova Gorica is the centre of the Basketball Metropolis and its mayor will be, for the second consecutive year, Matej Arcon."
         
Flags, banners and billboards will welcome you to the Day of Soncek... 

Around the Day of Soncek, the city will be full of Soncek flags and billboards, expressing welcome.

And this is not because Soncek needs advertising or wants to invite you to its free final event. 

It is because we often read in the sports news, when we were young:

"... there is no sign that a championship is taking place in the city..."

or:

"... it can be felt everywhere that a great event is taking place in the city.it is welcoming you at every step."

We often remember the words of a lady. Years ago she told us:
"...I was walking around Nova Gorica and I stopped at the crossroads. Various posters were advertising bars, restaurants and shops.Among them, a hand-made board drew my attention:
WELCOME TO THE DAY OF SONCEK!
I remembered the words from the Soncek bulletin, saying that it is difficult to understand
why there were so many banners and flags welcoming people
to attend an event with no entrance fee.
Simply because they want the children and everyone else in the city to feel happy at their holiday.
That's what they wrote.And when I was standing in front of the Soncek welcoming board, I started to feel happy as well."
